The Challenge:
A major global clothing manufacturer’s Fishkill Distribution Center is a critical hub spanning approximately 2.4 million square feet. It required a comprehensive HVAC upgrade to enhance operational efficiency and reliability. The sheer size of the facility posed logistical challenges, particularly in replacing rooftop units.
Multiple strategic lift stages were implemented to accommodate the unique size and location of the units. Unforeseen cancellations forced us to adapt rapidly, adding equipment, restructuring crews, and updating the installation strategy for the perimeter locations.
Scope of Work:
- Replacement of 63 aging Carrier rooftop units (RTUs) with new high-efficiency Carrier RTUs
- Integration of advanced building automation systems for centralized control and monitoring
- Implementation of radio repeaters to facilitate wireless communication between rooftop units, eliminating the need for extensive wiring
- Project executed in four phases to align with the client’s budgetary considerations
Our Response:
ACT promptly adjusted the project plan to address the logistical hurdle involved in lifintg and installing units on the roof. The project was structured into four phases, allowing for seamless integration with the client’s financial planning.
To modernize the facility’s HVAC controls, we implemented a centralized system accessible to the client’s team, enhancing monitoring and adjustment capabilities.
The use of radio repeaters facilitated efficient communication between rooftop units, reducing installation time and costs associated with extensive wiring.
The Outcome:
The successful replacement of 63 RTUs and the integration of advanced controls significantly improved the facility’s HVAC performance. The project’s phased approach ensured minimal disruption to ongoing operations. The facility manager expressed satisfaction with the upgrades, leading to further collaboration.
Subsequently, ACT was entrusted with the Priority Maintenance Program (PMP) for this and other large industrial buildings within the company’s regional portfolio, underscoring the client’s confidence in our expertise and commitment to excellence.
