The Challenge:
A leading manufacturer in the healthcare sector contracted ACT to deliver a complete overhaul of its chilled water infrastructure as part of a major facility expansion. This large-scale industrial project required not only heavy equipment integration, but also precise material coordination and complex in-slab mechanical layout — all while managing evolving process demands.
Midway through construction, the client’s process requirements shifted, triggering changes in design and flow. Simultaneously, global supply chain issues caused by COVID-19 began affecting material availability and lead times.
Scope of Work:
- Installation of a new 900-ton chilled water system serving a critical industrial process
- Deployment of three process chillers and four dry coolers
- Installation of over 20,000 CFM of exhaust air and 20,000 CFM of makeup air
- Embedded stainless steel chilled water piping and exhaust ductwork within concrete floors and walls
- Installation of copper compressed air lines to serve conveyor systems
Our Response:
ACT worked closely with the project’s engineering team to pivot midstream — revising system layout, updating material orders, and resequencing critical tasks to maintain progress.
- Adjusted system design to meet new process specifications
- Managed coordination of long-lead equipment and piping changes
- Embedded stainless steel piping and ductwork with precise coordination inside poured concrete structures
- Delivered high-volume air handling to meet ventilation and makeup air needs
- Integrated copper airlines to power the client’s new conveyor and handling systems
This was a job that required both scale and finesse — and ACT delivered.
The Outcome:
Despite shifting scope and pandemic-related disruptions, the chilled water system was installed, commissioned, and brought online on time. The client gained a high-performance, process-critical HVAC system — and ACT earned their trust.
They’ve since enrolled two of their major industrial facilities into ACT’s Priority Maintenance Program (PMP), ensuring their systems stay running reliably with regular service and priority response.
This project exemplifies the kind of complex, large-capacity industrial work ACT is built for — and the long-term relationships we form when the work is done right.
About ACT’s Industrial Facility Specialty
ACT brings deep expertise to mission-critical HVAC upgrades in industrial environments. Whether replacing a 900-ton process chiller or managing plant-wide piping and controls, we plan around production—not against it. Our crews work with in-house engineers and site leads to minimize disruption, execute with precision, and deliver systems that perform under real-world demand. From chilled water systems to heavy equipment lifts and staging, ACT is the partner facilities trust when failure isn’t an option.
